The Conclusion

The Race Day was a great success with much thanks and gratitude to all participants and sponsors for their immense support, encouragement and cooperation.
Here are some teaser pics for you to look over whilst our media crew process their shots.
The races were remarkably energetic and truly enthused!
I would also like to thank all the track helpers for being there to aid and to ensure the smooth running of all activities laid out.
My heartfelt gratitude to all sponsors for your support and enthusiasm. I would personally like to thank Northern Garage, Ultrex, Hyperlube and especially Federal Tyres for being there with their crew along with loads of displays, and their offer of the 595 RS-R series for all racers at the event.

Evidently, tyres are the best bang for buck handling improvement one can purchase! As shown with our RS-R shodden champs in multiple categories.

Thank you again to everyone that has attended our last event this year and we'll see you next year at the tracks!!!

Update (7/12/09): Pics can be seen at VictorGR's blog.

Update (10/12/09): Pics from our official photog can be found on his blog linked here.

Track day pics!

First off, I'd like to thank my good friend Tommy for his hard work repainting and putting on the beautiful decals on my "new" helmet.

Can see part of my Shell Ferrarri collection in the background :P
Here's what we've all been waiting for... Track Day PICS~!!!

We started off in the early morning and this is the convoy waiting for the trailing participants to arrive. It was massive! You can hardly see the end.
The Penang convoy had arrived on track and the leading car, driven by a very helpful Tan, was waiting eagerly to enter.Tommy (stickerman) was helping to setup the registration counter and looking "mui" important! We had beautiful ladies helping out with registration and as "decoration" :P
Our defending champion returns for another bout.
Parit Buntar's main man, Chean, signing up for participation in his Wira GSR (1.8T). *Keong, where are you?!?!?!*
Boy was eager to "help out" with issuing the stickers. Beaut EK9 btw, sweet ride ;)

Even though it rained, nothing was to dampen our spirits and we still pounded the track with RWD monstrosities and the odd FWD "hand-brakers"! We got really wet, but we won't have it any other way.
The 1.6 and below class top three: (L to R) Champion - Teoh from Team Imperials, 1st runner up - Richard from Team Imperials, and 2nd runner up - William from Northern Garage.

Teoh and William, you guys were fast as always.. William, you've improved a lot, keep it up.

The 1.8 class Champion (again) - Suhaimi from Kiong Lee in his 1.8 MIVEC Wira.
1st runner up of the 1.8 class - Sham representing his own workshop.
Great job on the track although this man came out confused, "Saya 2nd a? I pening la, corner banyak! I biasa drag", was his first words out of the car!

2nd runner up for the 1.8 class was a pristine EK99 B16B Civic. I'm sorry I didn't get your name bro, do contact me and I'll revise this post.
The podium for the Open Class...

Champion - Suhaimi (again!)

1st runner up - Sham (again!)

2nd runner up - Beautifully modded VW Golf GTi [I'm very sorry I also did not get your name. Do contact me to review this post ;) ]

I'm sure all that had been there had their fun even when the sun shunned, and the rain came out to play. Great event and thanks all for being there... For those who've missed it, watch this space for updates on future track days, and good luck with your builds/preps!

More pics coming soon. Keep an eye out!

I'd also like to wish a gratuitious and resounding THANK YOU! to the members of RC Square for entertaining us with their superb aerial show.
p.s. Thanks for cutting the grass with your RC helicopter ya :P

Rubber! Oh glorious rubber!

I'd just went to Chris' place to get my track day rubbers installed for a fun-filled Sunday at the Dato Sagor Track. I went and got my spare 17" rims from the store and brought them down to get the rubbers installed.

As we were fitting the rims on Silver, it started to drizzle but nothing will dampen my spirits that evening... I was going for a tyre test no matter what!

I had never ran rubbers so wide so I was quite adamant on how the Silver Banana would handle. Luckily, it was spot on! Great on-centre feel and loads of grip in the wet... Or damp, rather. I'd yet to test these rubbers in the dry but I've heard great reviews of it although most of the users were highway cruisers... Hey, rhymes... Kewl.

The only gripe I had with the tires are that its too comfortable.. And that brings about more doubts on how it'd handle on track as the level of comfort would relate to the stiffness of the sidewalls. Dang! But with proper engineering, maybe these tires may not suck after all.

I guess we'll just have to wait and find out this weekend.

See you all there, in whatever you wear!

*forgive my attempts at rhyming in this post... or ever! :P

Track day tires.

Hi readers, I've been away on business and consecutively swamped with back logged work thus the delay in postings.

Recent update, I've finally found my track tires! My mech Chris had found me some sweet tires for the one day excursion. I'm going to have a blast at this upcoming Open Track Day at the Dato' Sagor Track in Kampung Gajah next weekend, 13 July 08.

My very well (and evenly) worn tires on the right whilst, on the left, Chris shows off his find! A used pair of about 50% thread wear tires for the track excursion.

Track tires fitted on my Silver Banana with my track rims from an earlier car. These rims have proven to be hardy and light for my low powered applications. Wolfrace is casted at the back, although I doubt it is :P
I hope all you fellas are prepared for this track day. Its gonna be a great event!

p.s. I just found out that this is my 101st posting! Thanks readers, for following me through this journey of automotive endeavours. Keep posted on future activities and excursions!

Open Track Day at Dato' Sagor Track

Hi guys, there will be an open track day at the Dato' Sagor Track in Kg. Gajah on the 18th of May 2008.

The date is set as such since Wesak is on Monday so we'll all be off from work. Not to mention that it'll provide ample time to prepare your cars for the track excursion. This date is of course tentative and subject to change, depending on the majority of participants needs.

The price so far had been set at RM150 for a full day of high-revving motoring fun. Of course there will be short breaks in between in respect for the nearby mosque as they'll be having their prayers. But more than ample track time to quench our insatiable appetite for RPMs.

The event will be themed as : "NO FRILLS, JUST THRILLS"

It'll be a free and easy event as long as safety is observed on and off the track. Hope to see you all there. Cheers!

Feel free to drop me a comment and let me know what you guys think.

New stickers!

It was after work and we were just too darn free yesterday evening, hanging out at Tommax Stickers, and some funny ideas of decals popped into my head and discussions went on and on and on about what to put on. Myvi club was there as well.

Finally, a decision was made that we would make a layout of Dato Sagor Track and put it on my Silver Banana. This is how it turned out!

Tommy of Tommax Stickers skillfully installing the decal while Isfendy of MyviC looks on, awed :P Decals successfully installed and Tommy-san was tearing off the transfer tape with much distress due to the sticker's thin design.
A track layout of the Dato' Sagor Track or Litar Dato' Sagor on my third quarter window. Sweet right?

16th open track day at Dato Sagor

We had an open track day after the defensive driving course since we were staying over at the chalet anyways. Plus, we had to rent the track for both days (owner's requirements).

Zoggee organised something similar to Solo and took out timed runs as benchmark for future improvement. I didn't get any pics because all the participants and I were too busy being nosey. Sitting near the timekeeper and watching for others' lap times.

One interesting participant was the Saga from Hell, which I first saw at Sepang's open track on the 27th of Jan 08. This fella ran coil over shocks suspension in the rear and a 4G63T resides as its heart. Heavily modified and torque steers like mad. Enjoy the view :-

*Picture adapted from tougeking.blogspot.com

I had a blast of a time and I finally got Tougeking to drive my car. Despite being and FF layout, balding yr 2003 tires and his first time driving my car, his time was :-

1. 44.78 secs.

2. 44.94 secs.

3. 44.45 secs.

As compared to my own time of :-

1. 47.24 secs.

2. 48.35 secs.

3. 47.92 secs.

4. 47.89 secs.

5. 47.02 secs.

I tried entering the chicane on third gear and missed the following apex slightly on my second run, I didn't think it'd cost me so much. Haiz...

Now I know what I'm aiming for :) Thanks TK for the taxi ride and for the benchmark timing. Thanks also for showing me how to take the chicane, I shall return soon with vengeance and new tires :P

I just gotta say this. IT'S ALL ABOUT BALANCE!!!

Oversteer correction!

Have you ever experienced oversteer?

I had in fact faced this situation multiple times and spun out even when I was driving an FF (front mounted engine, front wheel drive) car! This occured a few times on track and a couple of times on public roads. I do not have to stress nor mention the danger level of oversteering when one's not armed with the knowledge to react to the situation.

Thus, with Zoggee available during the recent weekend track outing, it was a good opportunity for me to learn some car control from him.

After some waiting, I finally had some track time with this sought after pal of mine with him riding shotgun. We went on track and he started to explain to me how he was going to throw my car's rear out and how I'm going to react to this oversteer situation. I was listening intently and missed the turn, so we had to go for another round.

We went again and Zoggee had thrown my rear out, as it was my first time, I was hesitant to react and the car straightened too fast. A proper sounding was in order :( I had to go round again to finally get the feel and clear my doubts. He threw the rear, I reacted... And there was smoke!

I never imagined myself doing this at any point in time before. It is a good lesson to learn and keep in mind in times of need.

For those whom want to learn more defnesive driving skills, there'll be a driving clinic this 15th of March at the Dato Sagor Track in Kg, Gajah at RM750.00/person. The driving instructor is Mr. Sean Khoo, a reknowned driving instructor.

Do refer Tougeking at tougeking.blogspot.com (0136262288), or Zoggee at zoggee.blogspot.com (012-3031068) if you're from KL, or myself (0124077575) if you're coming from up North (Penang).

March Open track day at Dato Sagor track

It's been a great weekend with lots of excitement and education. If you've been following the previous postings, you'd already know what I'm talking about. For those whom have not, I was at a TRACK DAY!!! Woo-hoo! You think you can drive? Think again... I sure did! A definite eye-opener to the world of car control.

I was at the Dato Sagor track at Kg. Gajah for a weekend of fun in the sun (a little too much sun) with the BC-Machine group, loads of driving buddies and making new ones along the way.

I kicked off the weekend by waking up bright and early at 3.30a.m. (still dark actually) on Saturday morning to clean up and prep for the journey ahead. I pushed off at 4a.m. to meet the BC-Machine guys at the Bkt. Merah R&R which we punctually left at 5.15a.m. for the trip down to Kg. Gajah. Everyone decided to take the trunk road for some touge action albeit at a slower pace since it's just too darn early for any drama.

Look at the convoy we had, 13 cars in total!

We arrived at the track in time for setup and registration (everyone was awake by then) and we did some prayers to the local deity for a smooth event throughout!

Tougeking was anxious to get on track (as usual) and was getting ready to change his tires for some track attack!
After registration, we had drivers & instructors briefing from Zoggee, the administrator for the weekend.

The briefing aid was sponsored by Tommax sticker opposite i-avenue, Bkt. Jambul, Penang.

In the midst of briefing, 003 yelled out that he saw bufffalo! We thought he's joking as usual, but right as rain, there was a herd of them that had come to visit us on track!

Once everything was resolved and the buffalo shooed off track, we were ready for some action. I was in charge of the flags. Green means go, yellow means to watch out and be careful, and black is used to stop the run or a certain car at any time.

It was a hectic day and we were cluttered as most of us were first timers at being marshalls. BCM 003 and Zoggee even had no lunch. 003 bought some fried mee without asking for utensils which ended up with him eating food to mouth doggy style!!! He had help scooping the noodels with his buck teeth :D

The organizers decided to alter the track layout in the afternoon to cancel off right sweeper and introduce a slightly trickier course for the benefit of the participants in learning better control. Of course, a drivers briefing was warranted

A 350Z also stopped by for some on track fun with us under invitation from Tougeking.

It was fun, it was a learning experience, I'm hurting from the sunburn (even my face!) but it's all good. In fact, I can't wait for when the next one will be held!

I'm still lacking a few pics on other friends' cams, I didn't take many as I was on duty. I'll update as soon as I get the pics.

Till then, cheers!

Track blast on the 1st and 2nd March

Hi guys, the date for this event is nearing and I can't seem to contain the excitement... In fact, tomorrow is the initiation!!!

Please arrive at 8am for registration.
Track briefing will start shortly after registration.
Please make sure your car is mechanically sound, with no oil leaks.
Please secure your battery.
Please bring helments.
Although it is not necessary, but it'll be good idea to have a fire-extinguisher secured inside your car.
Please pay attention to the flags and obey them!Have fun!

- adapted from tougeking.blogspot.com"

Here's a track layout for those in Groups 2 & 3 whom might wanna plan for the best attack route!

So guys, keep these tips in mind and I'll see you there for the track attack! Cheers and drive safe.

Defensive driving with Sean Khoo on 15/Mar or 16/Mar

This is an excerpt from Tougeking's blog:

"Folks, we will be conducting a Defensive Driving Course in conjunction with the infamous Sean Khoo. Sean is a very difficult man to track down, so this is a rare occasion. If you are a motorsports enthusiast, clueless new driver, think-you-are-better-than-god-expert-driver, car dealer, or any car nut, this course will be a lot of fun, and it will come in handy when you get into an emergency driving situation.

Who is Sean, you asked?

For all those whom are serious into the driving scene, this would be a great way of properly "introducing" yourself into the world of driving. It is a great eye opener and a fantastic learning experience to learn and be guided from one of the best drivers around our lovely homeland.

I for one will definitely be attending his course! Hope to see you all there.
