Silver's new fart cannon!

It's been ages since I got a muffler change and seeing that the entire contents of my currently serving Werewolf (branded) muffler has been corroded and the silencer has since gone missing, running around my daily tasks have gotten a bit too loud for my liking. Not to mention much bothered neighbors :P
So off I went to visit Kiong Lee where Kiong, whom has done my exhaust since three touge machines ago, understood all of my intricate requirements and knew immediately which muffler was for me. I'm a picky bugger when it comes to how my car sounds.. I feel that it contributes a a a lot to the overall feeling of my much loved weekend cruises, don't you?
Kiong chopped off the old (locally made) Milo tin muffler and brought out what I would expect to serve me well into the next few years. We tacked it into place and tested how this massive tank sounded, and immediately, I was sold on this unit, Kiong knows me all too well.
APEXi's Dunk Megaphone is soft at idle, burbles at higher flows and growls at high RPMs, yet there's hardly any audible noise in the cabin... Kiong mounted it slanting sideways and upwards, just how I like it to be... Perfect~!!!

Now maybe I'll get some Autosol and start working on its finish this weekend :P

Pipes!

The Snappy one is glad to bring you another offer, this one on pipes, from our sponsor.
Kiong Lee Penang, situated at Bukit Jambul right next to Kayu Nasi Kandar, has prepared great deals and offers for the performance enthusiast going for the Northern Touge Race Day this year end.
Pipes, extractors, resonators and mufflers. You name it, they've got it... At the very least, it can be ordered for you.
With great workmanship, reasonable pricing and friendly service (although not at all times, we all get cranky on the job aye?), it's the place go for all your piping work.
Just spec them on power gains or mid RPM improvement, they're on the job.
Cheers and happy motoring!

Suck and blow! - Updated 09062009

Breathing better isn't only important to an active sportsman, it's also key in making gobs more power and my darling Silver just ain't breathing right. So over lunch, I visited Fer (my mech) for a little tweak of the intake tract. Fer opened up my manifold a little more to provide more throat for the suck, then Kiong (exhaust dude) took out one of my resonators and welded a 2.2" pipe in its place for the blow.
Exchanging my Apexi unit with my Werewolf (local brand) currently used in Daniel's Civic. What a samaritan I am.
Billy hooking me up with the exchange.
Silver reunited with my "Werewolf" muffler. Locally made, low on budget, but works awesome and sounds fantastic.
DOHC T/B ported maximum and polished smooth.
As I was also facing trouble installing my strut bar (I've been running without one for oh-so-long and I miss it dearly), I'd also replaced the super large throttle body (which is a little rough around the edges) that came with the engine for my stock SOHC throttle body to get a smoother flow pattern in the mean time whilst I get my DOHC one modded to fit.

DOHC T/B getting prepped for milling to allow my strut bar installation.

On the mill for removal of excess material.
After some soft testing last night, it seems the combination of all three changes done had resulted in lower low end torque but with much more up top, with excellent response to boot. I also had better fuel economy and a smoother revving engine. I guess bigger isn't always better aye?
Still, I can't wait for the other throttle body to get back from the mill. I wonder how the larger throat would affect this setup?

Lee's New Donuts~!!!

After a tedious and sweaty trip up North, scrounged and scavenged (pun intended) for a perfectly new set of donuts for Lee's (of Kiong Lee Exhaust) pristine B-series EK~!
Upon return, the excited bugger immediately took to installing these reknown track oriented tires and thus warranted a test drive! The dry handling was commendable (as expected) with superb road holding at the cost of noise and wet performance.
But the wear rate was just horrible, after just one run, the corner threads had started to wear towards the sidewall. Time for some extra camber methinks~! *evil thoughts*I can't wait to test them up my favourite bit of the uphill! Oooh... ~!!! The last time I tested with partially-worn AD07's up front, and balding ones in the rear, I managed to clock 120km/h uphill before braking hard into the tight right hander leading to the dam.

I wonder how these gumballs will improve that? Or will the retard in acceleration outweigh it's cornering advantage? *Grimace* I may get faster times, but slower clocked speeds.

Downturn and not looking up yet!

I'm going to run the risk of sounding like an economist in this post... But heck, I just gotta say it. The economic downturn is hurting everyone's wallets. The "big brother" countries have been hit REALLY hard and when the big multi-nationals there start saving cost, all the smaller manufacturers will be hit big time. Every company is having a cost reduction fever from cutting leisure costs (claims, entertainment, etc..), utilities costs and the nightmare-ish manpower costs.

Penang is in a state of suffocation. Where consumers are saving up in light of the current situation whilst manufacturers dare not hold stock in fear of a huge inventory that cannot turn-over with consumer demands being at an all time low.

Heck! Even the touge sessions have decreased as everyone is saving up for the financial drought projected to be arriving soon.

BUT~!!! Tonight will be when the Northern Touge members, along with a sponsor of ours, will just throw caution to the wind and let our tighly buckled belts loose for a night out in the hills full of adrenaline pumping, and tire screeching action!!!

See you guys there, and bring your game... Hahaha! I'm just lovin' this.

p.s. I had to salvage this post somehow right? :P

Northern Touge Race Day - Sanjev's cam

Another contributor and VERY dedicated photographer (he was out in the glaring sun the entire day) Sanjev had just passed me his beautifully taken pictures for Northern Touge. Enjoy!

The morning meet at Bkt. Merah R&R.
Our massive convoy passing through the Cangkat Jering toll.
Arrival at the track with a kiss of the beautiful morning sun.

Our sole auto K-car racing under the 1.6 category, Bom (Jason). He made it into the finals. Respect!
The gruelling fight in the 1.6 category which ended with the two Vios' taking a 1-2 finish followed by the Kelisa! Kudos to the sole K-car podium finisher.
The open class being led, by far, by the number 13 EK track car driven by Patrick Tam, which took pole all the way to the finish.
The top dogs in the 1.8 category battling it out to see Chin Hooi (red EF) take top podium, followed by Suhaimi (black Wira) in a close second and Patrick's (red/white EK) take home a cool third.
Participation was beyond our estimation with a massive turnout of spectators. Crowd was allowed on track upon ending the 1.8 category finals with the champ cars basking in the glory.
The champ cars - Red EF from Hup Yew Tires & Batteries and the Black Wira from Kiong Lee exhaust taking home top spots.
Daniel was having a grand time as a parking attendant.
Mark striking a sexy pose just before dinner... I've no idea why! Those interested, his cell number is 012-4212 XXX. (At least I gave you the first four right? :P)
The Penang-kias dinner party!
The entire crew was having a great ball with the race events still buzzing their thoughts.
Some extra shirts were given out to buddies in need of a clothe change. Much thanks to Tommax, Northern Garage and Kiong Lee for the shirts.
Believe me, these fellas were HUGE!

In conclusion, I'd like to thank all our sponsors: Northern Garage, Kiong Lee Exhaust, Tommax Stickers & No. Plate, and Chean Exhaust for all their support and encouragement.

It was a fantastic event held with much drama, sweat and tears, fellowship amongst enthusiasts and lastly, everyone left with a smile to their weary faces.

See you guys next round!

Northern Touge Race Day - Ray's cam pt.II

Continuation due to some conflict with blogger's server yesterday, I couldn't upload any more pics... So here goes.

The early morning pics... The Silver Banana parked next to my sponsor Kiong's car.
A small part of the convoy heading towards Kg. Gajah. There was such a large group, we had to split into many smaller convoy just to accomodate the driving speeds. Yes! It was that huge!
The Penang convoy has arrived and queueing up for registration to get into the track.
The main event banner, much thanks to Camo3.
The Silver Banana parked next to Touge Monk's (Daniel's) Civic.
All the drivers were listening intently to my short safety briefing before going on track. (save for the yawning Hwa).
Initiation to the track was lead by Tommax's Wira SE as safety car for the first couple of laps.
Upon letting them loose... Rampage!
Super fast street legal White EK battling it out for a few laps with the Red/White track racer whilst VictorGR's FC follows suit.
Robert (Yellow "Terminatrix" Satria) was a fierce competitor. He shocked everyone with his lap time of 1min 08secs whilst only armed with a 1.3 carby Satria. Robert's shown here hunting down Loy's (of Norther Garage) Wira 1.8.
1.6 class 1st heat - Watch how the leading Kelisa's passenger side front tire is lifted, Tripod Mode! Excellent work dude. You lead them all the way!
1.6 class 2nd heat - All the cars gave it all they had. Most friends were surprised with Mark's (Green Satria) driving and ability to keep up with more veteran drivers. Reason was that he's never had track experience, never drove "enthusiastically" on the road, and only driven up the touge about twice in his life! Great job buddy :)

1.6 class finals - Daniel (Civic) was giving Lao San (white Vios) a lot of pressure but Lao San did not wane one bit. In eventuality, Daniel's over-enthused driving steered him into a collision course with Sunny's Kelisa whom pursued and finished a commendable third placing. Kudos bro Sunny!

Northern Touge Race Day - Ray's cam

Heated battle amongst Suhaimi (black Wira) vs Malat (GTi).
1.8 litre class cars on track was just as entertaining to watch as the actual race.
The front runners of the Open class whacking it out for top podium placing!
With Ketit's pristing Silvia S15 trailing slightly behind.
And VictorGR was just plain having fun on track in his beautifully made up FC :)
