Partners in Crime

Relieved from the day's worth of DIY session, and long chats, Soon offered to have a run with my. So I put that on KIV and we'd met up at Jamal for dinner and some drinks, when Soon and his bro showed up in a white Perdana. After years of touge in Silver, I'd finally had the chance to run with another Perdana for the first time, who was I to say no :P

Soon's friend had Soon drive up his white variable valved (I know, but more on that later) Perdana through the Batu Feringghi twisties. After a short intro, it turns out I'd met this delightful fellow quite a while back at Tommax one evening. We arrived at the dam in two Perdana's to the shock of our usual crowd (I'm usually the only buffoon rolling in an executive sedan) and awe of the locals (which have gotten so acquainted with us).
Opening up the noisily inducted, fire breathing buffalo, we found a 6A12 MIVEC residing in its bay.
Being the itchy twat that I was, I'd gone and showed off my DOHC to the dissapointment of the masses. Hahaha...
We chatted and loitered and were found thirsty. So we made our (fast-paced) way down to Lan Burger at the Gurney round-a-bout for some drinks before parting ways.

This car was anything but slow, and it was so exciting to have another Perdana up the Teluk Bahang touge, I hope I get to meet more fellows.

Crank dat!

After a superb touge run recently, I'd noticed a sort of tapping sound coming from the engine. Initially, everyone's response would be that the engine is experiencing knock (which was also my first guess).

Upon arrival at the TB dam area, my main mech Chris got out and immediately (he didn't even manage to light up a ciggie) did some tests and concluded that my CRANK was bust... AGAIN~!!!

Does it make you wonder how things work their best just when they're about to go bust... Like super grippy tires (in the dry) just before it wanes, or how the air conditioning seems super cool until it goes in a puff of R134A (Freon or refrigerant in laymen's) mist!

This pic exemplifies how a good crank should look like... Sadly, mine has scratches and thus, had farked up my bearings :(
However, I saw some beaut cranks online such as the... :
Fully balanced crank from Jackson Auto Machine.
And the forged steel crank from Eagle!
A bit outta reach la.. I know... But a guy can dream, can't I?
I've gotta figure something out soon... Not being able to touge is pure melancholy to the point of being depressing. The pure dismal of it all... Aargh!

I gotta look for a crank soon... Or someone gimme a car to toss around!

Fatter Banana

I'd met up with Pak Li from V-Sixers some weeks ago after he called me up... Sort of a TT for him to "announce" his new mods :P

We met up at Kiong Lee since there's loads of parking and Kayu is just next door for us to have breakfast. I noticed his Banana got a whole lot fatter... Just couldn't pin point from afar.
Upon getting up close... It had a wide body kit installed due to his super offset rims scraping the fenders all the time and his car couldn't get low down... It sure can now!
Check out the fat arches... And the super fat front arch!
Pics of the completed Banana with paint (2nd from right). V-Sixers at Teluk Bahang dam.
Further pics of his car of completion (Still 2nd from right).
This post is much delayed due to the fact that he did not want his car to be blogged about without his car's completed pics. Anyways, enjoy fellas.

Blown engine.

It was a great Open Track event at the Dato' Sagor track in Kg. Gajah and all was well until I blew my engine within the first few hours of going on track.

I had so much fun chasing a Mini Cooper on track that I didn't realise what was going wrong. Sadly, as I came to pit, the engine stalled and would not restart.

The Silver Banana is now with Han and checks are ongoing to find the cause.

Get well soon my dear. We'll do better next at the next track excursion.

Monday night touge with hatches.

It was 5p.m. and I was starting to clear things up and prepare to get off work when Patrick (patricksohai.blogspot.com) SMS'd telling me that there's touge that night as one of his friends wanted to test his new suspension setting. As usual, I never say no to a touge session :P

As I was leaving the office, it friekin' rained on us... And I mean pouring! Nonetheless, I rushed home and took a good rest. I thought the trip was cancelled, so I was numbing myself out with episodes of Samurai X when Patrick SMS'd that they'd be at the meeting point in 20mins.

I rushed to get a refreshing shower, slip on some decent clothes and rushed out. We all met and I was horrified to see hatches all round. All Satrias and all running 4G93s~!!! My car looked like an overgrown buffalo in the lot.

Anyway, we had a short chat and they decided to put me in the lead so I'd put out some precautions and limitations as there was a first timer present, then we headed up.

As expected, the road was super wet and due to my torquey engine, I could only maintain speed even after the apex. There was no acceleration to be had if your tires are pointing anywhere but straight! I tried pushing a bit, and the beginners seemed fine, so I pushed a little more.. and more... and more... I eventually lost them, but was scared that something could have happened... I waited until I saw headlamps before clearing the next corner.

Upon reaching the dam, Raj took me for a ride down the serpentine roads leading to the dam gates. Damn this fella is fucking fast! I was amazed at his control over his machine at the very limits of grip.

It was a very fun night and everyone gained a little more understanding of their machines. Especially in the wet! Cheers fellas. I hope to see you all again soon.

*Sorry no pics as everyone was too excited going at Teluk Bahang full of puddles and fallen shrubbery.*

Tuesday night touge.

I was extremely distracted at work yesterday because I did not get my weekly touge fix as I had matters to attend to last weekend. I went to Tommax Stickers after work and met up with Daniel and we immediately made an appointment with the TB route. While we chatted, the heavens decided to pour on us but not enough to dampen our exhilaration.

It was eleven p.m. and Daniel and I met up at the Tun Sardon lookout point for a smoke whilse we wait for Patrick and Raj whom have also decided to join us for touge.

Everyone had arrived and warming up for the touge.
From left - right: Daniel (EK), ScAv (Perdana), Patrick (Satria), and Raj (Satria R3).

We had a fairly good run through the reverse course and we all stopped by the dam gates to cool off the drivers and their machines. I had some icy cool menthols to share around... Nice...

It was getting late and we all had things to be attended to early morning so we took leave shortly and most of us did the forward course below 10mins. Not bad on a damp course! We'll try to hit under 9.30mins next time :)

Cheers guys and thanks for the company!

New rims and tires.

After the recent track excursions, my tires were balding so bad that they were almost becoming full race slicks!

I went around shopping for new tires that past week or so and found that the original 205/60/15 tires cost a bomb!

With the announcement that tire prices will be going up from 1st April onwards, I'd decided that if an upgrade were to be made, it'd be now!

Good news came this weekend when a friend had helped me source out a set of 17" rims and new tires for a VERY good price.

The ever vigilant Bro Chris was there looking on the install. This dude is always looking out for me. Thanks so much bro. I owe you one! Patrick sohai (patricksohai.blogspot.com) was giving his "thumbs-up" to the new dubs... erk... I can speak "Nigger-ish" :P
Install was complete and waiting to get outta that bay.
I just couldn't resist taking another picture of my machine while parked at work this morning.
These rims kinda adds a certain "bling-age" to the ride doesn't it? Let me know what you guys think. It's kinda too many spokes for my taste... :P

Silver Banana brakes serviced.

The Silver Banana had seen better days since the track attack at Sepang. So recently, I'd decided to pamper it a 'lil by running around to complete a few outstanding tasks.

The morning started off with body work to adjust both the passenger side doors due to some careless driving by the previous owner. This was done very quickly by Ah Boon, my panel-working specialist :P

After that, I decided to resolve the brakes issue by fully servicing the entire brake system. So I made a few calls to a few BCM fellows to arrange the work to be done, and some friends of mine to get a hold of some steel braided brake hoses for my Silver Banana as reward for the good work she's done at Sepang! I made calls all over Pg and found two places to keep stock for Perdana and decided to get those from my long time exhaust fabricator, Soon Yee exhaust located at Paya Terubong (near the Permata sports complex). I got a set of Improve stainless steel braided brake hoses for RM200+

I immediately rushed over to meet with BCM Hush Puppy as I was running late. As I was approaching the Penang Bridge, who else to call but BCM Hush Puppy to tell me he'll be running a little late as he's still in Kulim resolving another car's issues. So I called up BCM 003 to meet up for a "parts run" to get the service kit and brake fluid.

We then met up with BCM Hush Puppy at his workshop to service my brakes. We worked through the entire evening and completed everything close to 1a.m. due to a great deal of distractions like chatting and doing stupid stuff just for kicks.

Here are a few pictures of the new SS braided brake hoses installed and the old set of hoses lying on the discs. Notice the difference in diameter, which will affect the pressure applied to the caliper's pistons, and how SHINY it looks!

These are the old set of original brake hoses and Bendix brake pads after a round of Sepang Open Track Day :) The hoses are swollen and the pads have been worn shiny. At closer inspection, the pads' resin (the stuff that holds the abrasive material together) was heated so much that its dissipated! Kesian, those were super nice pads.

BCM Hush Puppy decided to service the entire brake system instead so he had gone and thoroughly cleaned the master pump of all gunk and grime, then reinstalled all the bushes and valves, and refilled the entire bled system with Bosch Dot 4 brake and clutch fluid. Nice :)

Look at how clean it is from the top.

As I had not updated these items, I've also replace the stock slinky springs with these fatty Apex units for a more controlled ride at highway speeds. These springs are just the best units to try out for road use. It's stiffer rate is excellent for dents and potholes (you won't feel a thing) but a little too softly sprung for bumps. Here are a couple of pictures of the Apex springs... Pardon the dirt!

Here's a little bonus material for everyone to ponder upon. Some call it 4-throttle (for the obvious reasaons) and some call it ITBs (Independant Throttle Bodies)... And this set isn't for any ol' Toyota, it's for the Honda's screamer of an NA... These beaut units are for the B16A!!!

History of cars owned.

Hi readers,
This blog is a simple introduction to what I've driven before and a little oversight of the experience driving them.

My 1st ride is the B14 series of Nissan's Sentra (Sunny to the rest of the world) 1.6 (A). This car was a family saloon and was an auto. I went through 2 auto boxes in its lifespan of only a year in my possession performing stupid acts of bravado in my younger days.

*There are no pics of this car, much to my regret*

My 2nd and most memorable ride is the Toyota Corolla EE90 1.3 (M). This car was a beauty and it seemed to me that its handling was great during my transition from the previous Sentra to this SE. The little 1.3 went through a lot of hardships until it finally gave way when the main crank bearings cracked up. So in went a replacement 1.5 engine soon after which I installed a Weber DCNF for better breathing.

The Corolla SE is a little oversteery at stock due to differently offset wheels. This charachter and multiple misjudgements on my side ended up with me sending this car off to greener pastures.

My third and current ride is a Proton Perdana SEi (M) which I bought for a low budget. This car is my daily drive to work and fuel consumption is more or less the consumption of my previous car albeit the 500cc difference in capacity. It was an immensely confortable car save for the few squeaks and scratches which I'd done ala DIY to resolve (some are still in process).

I'd gone and spoil everything by changine to a set of Apex springs, or so I thought, but soon changed after my first trip to Ipoh and it was extremely comfortable at highway speeds. So I stuck with it but everything else is left stock.

The most amazing activity is me taking this Perdana and went swooping around the Sepang F1 circuit this past weekend. I have to say I'm quite amazed that it handles quite well if only I'd bothered to uprate the dampers and put in better tires.

At the transition from the Corolla EE90 to when I bought the Perdana, the touge monsters in me were just dying to get out so I went out to get a little toy to play around first whilst waiting. This came in the form of a Toyota Corolla TE72. This little bugger came with a fire-breather of an engine.. The 20Valve 4A-GE silvertop. Dubbed, "Project Pooh" due to its color.

I had loads of fun going for touge and bullying some larger cars on the street :P

This is Pooh when I bought it initially.

Pooh after a few touch ups by sponsors and a little DIY by myself

Whilst the TE was all fun, I had a slight mishap at a foreign touge route and due to its chassis condition, it was no longer feasible to repair. Thus it's body was scrapped and sold off, whilst the internals and all running gear was salvaged in preparation for the rise of project "Snappy 'lil KP"!!!

As mentioned, a new chassis was sourced and for the budget at hand, the best conditioned chassis I could find was a KP60 1.0(M) Toyota Starlet. This shall be the new body to facilitate all of Pooh's "heirlooms" to make for one damned SNAPPY 'lil KP~!!!

Project Snappy 'lil KP is still waiting for its heart as the old one was fried within 2 days of me gettin' the car. I was too excited and went for spirited drives which ended with my blowin' the engine.

Keep checkin' in for the updates to Project Snappy!!!
