Ol Skool Datto

I had the opportunity of viewing a friend of Ben's Datto (Nissan/Datsun) 120Y.
This was a real workhorse of its time and its still kept in immaculate condition.
Its engine is infallible still runs perfectly with only minimum maintenance.
I can't tell you how nostalgic this feels for me as my grandaddy used to fetch me from school in one of these!

Sugar, Spice and Everything Nice!

It was a lousy week at work and I'd just wanted to get away from it all so I decided to bring my girlfriend to the Tropical Spice Garden up in Teluk Bahang for a short visit to bask in the tranquility of the hills spruced with flora and fauna within.
The entrance to the Spice Garden compiled of beautifully laid granite and arched by creepers.
Rustic looking pergola which the reception is and there's also an available guide to bring you around.
A map is also provided for you to plot your journey of spice discovery.
An extended low-rise platform stretches across the pool that looks out into a vast garden.
Gravel paved paths and wooden bridges plot your walk to spice and flora education.
If you feel like cooling off and refreshing after a thorough walk, follow the tarmac path...
Which overlooks the beach to your left....
And leads to a short flight of stairs...
Which brings you through a Chinese style arch...
And to the Spice Cafe which serves wonderful food which are all natural and healthy. I was there the week before and, curry fish rice and a side of mildly steamed vegetables were served for lunch. The curry was the sour variety and void of santan! Excellent.
You'll see to the right is the souvenir shop selling spices of sorts and a couple of books on Malaysian history. They even sell a map of all historical sites throughout Malaysia.
Here's a frontal view of the shop and you can see huge cinnamon peels that fill the air with their sweet scent.
As you descend from the shop, a scenic sight awaits on the cooling platform on stilts that looks out into the sea.
You'll be able to see the Teluk Bahang coastline to your left...
And the vast expanse of sea to your right and eventually looking out towards Batu Feringghi.

I had the wonderful Spice Tea which I absolutely loved. It has anise star and a couple of other spices with a hint of clove. I also had their signature cookies (which are made fresh) with a multitude and variation of spices. These are simply awesome. I even brought my own tau sar pneah for a little variety :)
Here's a shot which I was just testing my panorama shot on my handphone. Pretty sucky but one's gotta work with what one has right?
'Till next post. Ciao!

Euro Beat

There's always a void that can't be filled for the Japanese car owner. No matter how hard you push it, nor whatever mods you've thrown in, there's always a gap.. Something amiss.
I'm not sure if its age catching up to me or if I'm just going a bit soft. But I can't seem to rid myself of the feel and solid fluid lines of these classics I grew to love watching BTCC and DTM races. It could be the solid build quality, the entirety or the exotic feel... But no, I eventually concluded that these European marques did things a little different from our econobox pocket rockets. These cars were built with PASSION and SOUL~!

I keep recollecting my thoughts and emotions (from time to time) of whence I was test driving an Alfa Romeo 147 GTA with a pal of mine and today, I just thought I'd share some of my fav "blasts from the past" with you, my dear readers.
This is the Alfa Romeo 155 which is the initial car I fell in love with when I had my first peek at into the DTM series.
It ran on the (now) legendary Alfa Romeo 2.5 litre 90deg. V6 which has sustained production 'till this day.
The 1996 version had a 2.5 L 90° V6 engine delivering 483 hp at 11,900 rpm, had a top speed of around 300 km/h and weighed only a scant 1,060 kilograms.
Next on my list is the Mercedes-Benz 190E Evolution II - Hah! I bet you thought the Evo moniker refers only to the rally champion from the Land of the Rising Sun!
Back in the day, this Merc was like no other. Built solid as a brick and even Merc agrees that its over-engineered for its time.
The Sonax sponsored 190E was my initial look at this monster from Stuttgart, and I was awed. I mean, jaw-droppingly awed!Notice the bulging hips and haunches along with the massive rear spoiler that came STOCK!
This "Baby Merc" ran on the 224 bhp at 7,200 rpm and 245 N·m of torque at 5,000 rpm 2.5 litre 4-banger from Stuttgart, whilst pushing the top speed up to 155 mph. In their final incarnations, these engines produced up to 350 bhp (260 kW) in racing tune.

The Peugeot 205 GTI is considered as one of the best hot hatches of all time with journalists singing praise from every corner in the world this car had shown up. It was only running measly 1.6L (115hp) and 1.9L (128hp) engines, but with its inherent habit of sudden lift off oversteer and extremely light kerb weight of only 762kg! It was an amazing little number!
And finally, there were the racing versions based heavily on the T16 variants running transverse mid-engine, four-wheel drive layout of the rally car, but had much less power, at around 197 hp from a 16-valve turbo engine.

PDRM Evo X - Out and About!

Finally, the first pics I've seen online of the (now) infamous PDRM's Evolution X, which I think was a controversial purchase anyway. But heck, lets just enjoy the pics :P
The decals are new and kinda upbeat for its purpose.
Notice the new website has changed to its English abbreviation for the Royal Malaysian Police.
Helang Lebuhraya Polis! Speed at your own risk...

That insignia, which looks like it belongs on a Sherrif's horse, looks a little out of place.
Sticky tires and big brakes ensures no wrong-doers go unpunished.
But wait... If you think that these highway patrols are massive, check out what they have prowling the streets!
That's right dude, it's a 2.5T (turbo) but wait.... What's it doing on those skinny tires and check out the super dark tint (which the public is disallowed). Who says them cop cars can't be pimp?

Dragon 70 - Genesis

Its been quite a while since I was missing from the automotive scene and I thought I'd just drop by RPM Autoworks yesterday for a little update. Seeing the Dragon70 coming along sooo well just excites me and driving it will be, undoubtedly, a thrilling experience for the RWD noob. Lots of time had been spent waiting for custom built parts and foundry work, fabrication of parts and chassis work. The entire interior has been spruced up (note: black dashboard), ground down, and painted up. Wiring is complete and all that's left is the exhaust manifold which is expected to arrive by this weekend.

The Dragon70's Genesis is to be the spiritual successor and mechanical superior to my Pooh Project. I can't wait to see and hear it roar to life! *overwhelming excitement* Dragon70's old heart. We shall miss you for all the on-throttle maneouvres we've had. Also in the shop is another member of the Northern Touge family getting a new heart. It will also be Forced Inducted!
I should write up an article soon on Northern Touge and its force inducted members. I suspect most have gone past this route for gaining power. Most enthusiasts would tell ya nothing beats the high revving shrill and thrill of an NA all-motor, but one cannot deny the efficiency of the forced induction system.

The RSM sold earlier was also being installed (I guess I came at the right day), with instruction manual available and complete harness.
It was a cinch and installation and testing only took below an hour.
The meter was alive, well and took to inputs with great vigil.
Oh, it was a great evening to see all this going on. I retired home to some well deserved rest and relaxation.
