Sunny Saturday Session

Benjamin, whom had just got his DCNF fixed at RPM Autoworks, had called me up that his throttle was too loose and throttle control was just horrible. So we met up at Tommax, and I took him downtown to our fav spring-maker (I was really into carbs previously) to get a couple of springs with different tension, to stiffen his accelerator pedal, for him to test out.
We proceeded to Kiong Lee to customize a pair of brackets for the springs and I chose the spring that allowed a little slack on take-up, and linear tension throughout the entire pedal travel for him and it Ben was as happy as a squirrel with an acorn.
Did I even mention that his Sunny's paint is just immaculate? Coz it is! Snuggled within the engine bay is where the E13 still resides and pulling strongly with the wider torque curve, compliments of the Weber carb.
Ben had found, with patience and lots of determination, a beautiful set of chromed extractors for his beloved ride.
I was given the privilege to sample this blast from the past. We took the Tun Sardon hill at speeds exceeding 100km/h and the Sunny, although running on unmatched aprings and dampers, was balanced beyond my belief.
Even though it was on 14" touring tires, the car felt so natural to drive exceedingly fast. I just had to enter really hot, lift off for oversteer or LFB for a little more grip up front and I was actually countersteering at one of the corners going downhill! I miss driving my Weber, the throttle control and unlimited fuelling is just to die for.

Benjamin grew a new love for his Sunny and we had a good, filling lunch at Kassim Mustafa (which has the best sambal nyiur around, got 2 types summore!). I gave him some suggestions on his driving and feedback on his brakes fading intensively throughout the run.
There are not many choices for the Sunny and its unfeasible to change the braking system but Ben, being Ben, immediately went and got himself a set of Bendix pads and met us for touge that very night! Hahaha... Cheers to you bro for maintaining a prime example of the Nissan backbone of so many years. Oooh... Ben is also Mark's cousin. Both into touge and both driving metallic green cars :P

Leng's new 70

As VictorGR left after dinner, I had a call from Ah Leng right about then about his KE70 that he'd just sent over to Fer for a Weber install and tuning. Leng had requested me to test drive, we were finishing up Soon's car, and it was getting late so I agreed to do the drive early the next morning.

This morning, Leng called up bright and early for the test drive and as I'd promised him, I dragged myself out of bed and we blasted up the touge to Balik Pulau and the Weber was performing beautifully. Crisp and sharp throttle response with much smoother torque across the RPM band. Fer is quite the authority on Webers here in Penang.
The Weber looks fantastic although the base looks a little rough, we'll be looking into that later on as Leng wanted to get it up and running in quite a hurry.
Our midway stop on the way back after having a light breakfast at Balik Pulau. The air there is just refreshingly crisp and clean.
Rear three quarter view of Leng's pristine KE70 which he bought as is.
Good job on the purchase and great decision to install the carbs.

Wide throated White Wave

It has been a fantastic week, although work was just dreadful, but wonderfully eventful and nostalgic one.

Recently I just had a touge session with Billy in his Iswara. Being a carbureted version, the revs were light and peaky. A point of note for this particular Iswara, is that it’s running on the Weber DCNF scavenged from yours truly’s initial exploits into the automotive world. I told you it had been a nostalgic week right? My mint DCNF residing in his clean bay. Proud of your advancements bro. Cheers!
Billy had just revised his front suspension and DIY'd a custom built strut bar, and wanted to further test out his dampers before proceeding to revise his rear damping so I, the ever willing driver, is always the perfect accomplice!
See the "ponna" thick bar? It has padding on it to ensure minimal knocking of my DCNF. Webers are a gem in this high pressure fuel injected world.
We headed up to the Teluk Bahang “test route” and lo and behold, the frontal grip was amazing even if only running on 15” A520 street tires (an old series before the Neova era). The rear was still rolling in the bends and squatting on acceleration but that has never stopped me from having fun en route.

Billy did me proud, he polished the cover 'till it shone!
Billy experienced a controlled manner of FWD oversteer with the front end biting with the rear slipping, and just treading its wider slip angle. We were having so much fun sliding the “White Wave” (white is the car’s color and wave is cause its rear handles like one.. Hah!) throughout Teluk Bahang and Batu Feringghi.

We ended the evening with birdwatching at Gurney drive’s Mc Donald’s, a Coke and a smoke for the perfect snappy evening! Thanks Billy for the pleasure of driving your “White Wave”~! Catch you again soon.

The Saga of Pin

I'd recently met up with a godbrother of mine, Ah Pin, whose been delving in his work life so much so that he's missing from the scene for quite some time. And this chance meeting was at Chuan Gee Tires where Bro Fer is on duty. Pin drove his Weber-ised Saga here if only to instigate my emotions for the carb! (Dang you!!! I love these noisy and impossible mechanicals)

Ah Pin's pristine condition 1st gen. Proton Saga. (Lookit the lens glare from the headlights... I swear it's not edited!)

What lurks beneath...
The twin terrors within the belly of the beast.
Look at those beutifully mounted suckers! And those are original Weber trumpets (velocity stacks) mind you!
And bolted, steadily, on Hot Bits sand-casted aluminum intake manifolds designed specifically for the 4G15 Twin Weber application.
Casted and assembled in Bologna, Italy. Weber authentic niii!!!

It's fantastic to see your ride and reminisce of the days of old when all of us were running around with Webers and straight flow pipes... The induction roar and exhaust note still reverberates in my ears!

Oh, I probably forgot to mention that bro Chris (Fer Fer) is a superb Weber tuner and one of the last masters of the art left in Penang. Psst... He installed and TUNED my previous set in 45mins (hardware and brackets all present liao la).

Great to have met you again bro, and thanks for the photo op ;)
