I went to meet Soon after work yesterday to see how his Blackie was doing and I'm pleased to say he's done it again! This dude has excellent craftsmanship and loads of patience to finely grind out all the rough edges.

The wet one!

Last Friday, as seen in my previous post, was a super wet evening that lasted all the way through 'till well past midnight. But being the fervent touge enthusiast that we were, we went up anyway!

Mark brought along his very snappy Nikon DSLR and snapped a few.

The green monster await-eth (got this word a?) its prey.

The yollow terror is well fed and waiting to devour Teluk Bahang tarmac. I got a huge shock to see it re-painted again to a super shocking yellow baby...

Both cars filled and heading up to the usual attack route.We arrived at the dam shortly and whilst having our rest and usual puff, Mark was bitching about how the droplets would dew up his lens and cause molding on his DSLR. The cones are there for a purpose :P

Joining the pack!

The Northern Touge group of enthusiasts were thought up by a group of VERY enthusiastic Touge kakis. Everything started when it sparked Daniel to call us Northern Touge, then Alvin drew up the logo whilst Ewe Jin came up with the font. We're still nurturing the growth of our little touge family, with potential for rapid expansion (couldn't help quoting The Joker).

A recent addition into the Northern Touge family has been made with Mark's acquisition of a brand spanking, super stock, used Proton Satria 1.6 (a derivative of the Mitsubishi Cyborg). The flurry of events took place just after two rounds up the TB (Teluk Bahang) touge and he was hooked!!!
He gave word that he's looking for a weekend driver, so I made a few calls and hooked him up with what is possibly the best platform to learn and advance in. Reason being that our market is saturated with spare parts and engines galore for this platform and it comes adequately powerful at stock. Easy to drive, easy to maintain and relatively cheap to mod.

I got the hook up last week, Mark and his dad (knowledgeable fellow) went over to view and scrutineer this weekend, made payment yesterday and we took the car off my long time pal Chong last night. And like every kid with a new toy, Mark was super psyched for the "Green Monster" (he'd decided to call it as such) acquisition and was already happy with the drive back home (wait till he gets on the touge).

A few things have to be done such as changing the timing belt (to keep his heart at ease), swap out the steering wheel (its too small and its wood... 'nuff said), then off we go for a drive uphill. Another interesting fact is that Mark is totally new to the word "speed". He is a below 3000RPM driver whom wants a twist in life... We'll see how he progresses after a few quick tips and tricks.

I'm planning to take him uphill this Saturday for brekkie at Balik Pulau market... Anyone wanna join in?

Monday night touge with hatches.

It was 5p.m. and I was starting to clear things up and prepare to get off work when Patrick (patricksohai.blogspot.com) SMS'd telling me that there's touge that night as one of his friends wanted to test his new suspension setting. As usual, I never say no to a touge session :P

As I was leaving the office, it friekin' rained on us... And I mean pouring! Nonetheless, I rushed home and took a good rest. I thought the trip was cancelled, so I was numbing myself out with episodes of Samurai X when Patrick SMS'd that they'd be at the meeting point in 20mins.

I rushed to get a refreshing shower, slip on some decent clothes and rushed out. We all met and I was horrified to see hatches all round. All Satrias and all running 4G93s~!!! My car looked like an overgrown buffalo in the lot.

Anyway, we had a short chat and they decided to put me in the lead so I'd put out some precautions and limitations as there was a first timer present, then we headed up.

As expected, the road was super wet and due to my torquey engine, I could only maintain speed even after the apex. There was no acceleration to be had if your tires are pointing anywhere but straight! I tried pushing a bit, and the beginners seemed fine, so I pushed a little more.. and more... and more... I eventually lost them, but was scared that something could have happened... I waited until I saw headlamps before clearing the next corner.

Upon reaching the dam, Raj took me for a ride down the serpentine roads leading to the dam gates. Damn this fella is fucking fast! I was amazed at his control over his machine at the very limits of grip.

It was a very fun night and everyone gained a little more understanding of their machines. Especially in the wet! Cheers fellas. I hope to see you all again soon.

Tuesday night touge.

I was extremely distracted at work yesterday because I did not get my weekly touge fix as I had matters to attend to last weekend. I went to Tommax Stickers after work and met up with Daniel and we immediately made an appointment with the TB route. While we chatted, the heavens decided to pour on us but not enough to dampen our exhilaration.


It was eleven p.m. and Daniel and I met up at the Tun Sardon lookout point for a smoke whilse we wait for Patrick and Raj whom have also decided to join us for touge.


Everyone had arrived and warming up for the touge.

We had a fairly good run through the reverse course and we all stopped by the dam gates to cool off the drivers and their machines. I had some icy cool menthols to share around... Nice...



It was getting late and we all had things to be attended to early morning so we took leave shortly and most of us did the forward course below 10mins. Not bad on a damp course! We'll try to hit under 9.30mins next time :)

Love of hatches!

After the recent track day, I'd had the chance to drive a few hatchbacks on track. Namely the Proton Satria and Proton Satria Neo, and I'd utterly fell in love with them.

I'm not sure if it's their captivating and compact looks, it's lightweight and nimble build, or its short overhangs. Now I can't seem to stop thinking about hatches! A whole new level of respect has instilled in me for these lovely little cars.

In the picture above, I'm driving the grey Satria which was, with a loose rear, fun to drive on this track due to a tendency to oversteer! I also had the opportunity to take a few laps in the orange Satria Neo which was in a word... sublime!

Even though it was only running on stock suspension and down-graded to 15" wheels, The Neo was still a very much point-and-shoot sort of drive. The Neo was very nicely balanced and, although laggy at first, is a real bruiser after 4000RPM. Seeing that I'm an NA nut, it was quite fun trying to maintain the high RPM threshold. The only conclusion I could come up with for the Neo's inexplicably good handling is that its structure is much more rigid than the original Satria.

Girl's Neo burnt down, Proton denies claim!

This girl had a beautiful and well cherished Proton Satria Neo:

It got burnt down after a service at an "authorized" Proton service centre:

Now there's no promise of compensation for this incident but on the other hand, the service centre has offered to repair the car under the girl's insurance (meaning all NCD will be anulled) and she has to buy a new Neo from THAT service centre!!! WTF???

Imagine, you borrow a friends phone to make a call then break it.

Then you offer to buy him a new one, from which you charge him "RM200", which is the price of the new phone~!!!

Your friend would probably wallop you for it!
